The University of Notre Dame joins the Hesburgh and Congregation of Holy Cross families in mourning the death of Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh, C.S.C. Father Ted served as the fifteenth President of the University of Notre Dame from 1952 until his retirement in 1987. Today the Notre Dame campus community will celebrate the life and legacy of one of the nation’s most influential figures in higher education, the Catholic Church, and national and international affairs as we pray for the repose of Father Ted’s soul.
