Sorin's Restaurant
Show me the Money!

The wall décor featured in the Officers Room, a small dining area located within Sorin's, is quite unique. A portrait of Father Edward Sorin, the founder of the University of Notre Dame, hangs next to a copy of his signature. Also represented is a reproduction of the contract that was drawn up for the construction of the Administration Building. This contract is only one page in length. (Imagine what the length of such a document would be today.) On the opposite wall is a copy of the original blueprint for the Main Building, this too only one page in length. From such humble beginnings rose the magnificent building crowned with the Golden Dome. But perhaps the most interesting and unusual artifact in the Officers Room is the collage of Notre Dame money. Before and during the Civil War, banks, utilities, and businesses were allowed to print their own currency. This display includes five, ten, twenty- five, and fifty dollar bills that were printed by the University.
